Mark was born on the Isle of Wight in 1958 and learnt how to play the drums at an early age. Encouraged by his parents he soon joined his first group Pseudo Foot in 1971 at the age of thirteen. He then joined other local bands before heading to London to seek his fame and fortune. It was here that he took up playing the bass and profected what was to be his trademark style of slap bass. In 1980 he was invited to play a jam session at the Guildhall School of Music and the four musicians later became Level 42. They were quickly signed to Polydor Records after independant record label owner Andy Sojka had signed them following a visit to one of their gigs. The band proved to be a real live force playing many concerts in the UK and across Europe to great reviews. Mark released his first solo album in 1984 entitled Influences which contained pieces of work that he put together when the band first formed. An award winning bassist Mark has played with many other artists such as Nik Kershaw and Midge Ure. The mid-eighties saw Level 42 change direction to seek pop stardom with such singles as Something About You, Lessons In Love and Running In The Family. After many band changes the band split in 1994 and Mark took time out but he soon got itchy feet and came back to the public eye with his second solo album One Man in 1998. Mark then formed a band which included his brother Nathan on guitar and toured the UK and Europe to help promote the album. This proved a success and over the next few years he did more tours and also released live albums and DVD's to a greatly reseptive and growing fan base. In 2002 Mark secured the rights to use the name Level 42 and has since done more large tours.
